Social Influence of Anxious thoughts and Its Management

There are individuals who may be both psychologically and biologically prone to have anxious thoughts. But you have to know that a lot of anxious thoughts are triggered by social factors. Most individuals feel anxious because they are underr stress, such as starting a new job, a divorce, or moving to a new place. Moreover, how a person expresses anxious thoughts appears to be shaped by social factors. For instance, many cultures accept the expression of anxious thoughts and emotion in women, but expect more reserved emotional outbursts from men.

Medications

Psychiatrists most of the time give a drug under the classification of benzodiazepines. It is a category of tranquilizing drugs, to lessen anxious thoughts in individuals with high levels of it. Benzodiazepines help to reduce anxious thoughts by stimulating the GABA neurotransmitter system. Common benzodiazepines include alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), and diazepam (Valium). Two classes of antidepressant drugs— selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs)—also have been found good in managing certain anxious thoughts disorders.

Benzodiazepines can work quickly with few ugly side effects, but they can cause a person to be dependent on it. Moreover, benzodiazepines can decrease or hinder thinking or sense of locomotion and therefore must be used with caution, particularly in elderly persons. SSRIs take longer to work than the benzodiazepines but are not addictive. Some individuals experience anxious thoughts symptoms again when they stop taking these kind of drugs.

Therapy

Psychiatrists use a variety of methods to help individuals overcome anxious thoughts disorders. These include psychoactive drugs and psychotherapy, most especially behavior therapy. Other techniques, such as meditation, exercise, biofeedback, and hypnosis can also be found helpful.

Psychotherapy

Psychiatrists who beleive that the origin of anxious thoughts to unconscious, internal conflicts may use psychoanalysis to help individuals understand and resolve their conflicts. Some types of theories on psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, is beleived to be effective in treating anxious thoughts disorders. In cognitive-behavioral therapy, the psychiatrist often informs the patient about the nature of his or her particular anxious thoughts disorder. Then, the psychiatrist may help the person challenge irrational thoughts that can proceed to anxious thoughts. For example, to treat a person with a crowd phobia, a psychiatrist might gradually expose the person to speaking in front of an audience, beginning with small group of people and progressing to real public speaking. The person can use relaxation techniques acquired in therapy to overcome the fear of the crowd.
